BELOIT, Wis. - The Martin Luther College volleyball team lost both its matches on day two of a tournament at Beloit College on Saturday. The Knights lost the opener 3-1 (25-18, 25-23, 15-25, 25-21) to Northland College, and followed that with a 3-0 (25-17, 28-26, 25-23) loss to Olivet in the finale.
After a disappointing defeat to Northland in the first match of the day, the Knights went toe-to-toe against Olivet, which entered that match with an unbeaten 3-0 record.
The Knights dropped the first game 25-17, but pushed Olivet to the limit in the next two sets, losing by only two in each game.
MLC hit .153 for the match, led by eight kills from both
Kelsey Birschbach and
Alyssa Heckendorf.
Hannah Willems was the most efficient MLC hitter with a .385 attack percentage for the match.
Jewel St. Germaine led the team with 17 assists and added eight digs. Birschbach finished with a team-high nine digs.
MLC fell to 0-4 on the season with the two defeats. The Knights will return to action on Wednesday, September 4, when they travel to St. Catherine for a match scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
