Volleyball Drops Two at UWS Triangular

SUPERIOR, Wis. - The Martin Luther College volleyball team lost both matches in a triangular at UW-Superior on Saturday. The Knights lost to host UWS 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-22) to open the day, and followed that a 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-15) to Bethel in the night cap.

UWS 3, MLC 0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-22)

The Knights opened UMAC play with a three-set defeat at UW-Superior.

The Yellowjackets raced to a 1-0 lead by winning 14 of the final 20 points in the first set, and then overcame a big early deficit to win the second set 25-20. MLC built a 17-12 lead midway through the third set, but UWS was able to come all the way back to close the match in three games.

Alyssa Heckendorf and Kelsey Birschbach tied for the team lead with six kills apiece, while Hannah Willems and Kate Aswege led the team with three blocks and 12 digs, respectively.

BU 3, MLC 0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-15)

Bethel hit .340 on the attack on the way to a three-set win over MLC in the second mach of the day.

The Royals hit a blistering .533 in the opening set to take the lead in the match and never looked back as they hit .314 and .172 in the final two sets on the way to the sweep.

Birschbach once again led the team in kills with seven in the match. Aswege finished with a team-best 14 digs.

MLC fell to 2-14 on the season and 0-1 in UMAC play in defeat. The Knights will return to action on Thursday, October 3, when they travel to Carleton for a match scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
