ST. PAUL - The Martin Luther College volleyball team lost its return match at St. Catherine 3-0 (25-11, 25-14, 25-21) on Tuesday.
The two teams met previously last week, with the Wildcats winning that match in three sets, and St. Catherine controlled this meeting from the start.
The Wildcats' blocking was difficult for the Knights on the attack throughout the match, as St. Catherine blocked five MLC attacks in the first set and finished the match with nine blocks overall.
St. Catherine improved on the attack as the match went along, hitting .250 overall and .400 in the third and final set.
Kelsey Birschbach led MLC with nine kills, but
Lauren Paulsen (six kills) was the only other MLC hitter to finish with more than two kills. Birschbach also led the Knights with 10 digs.
MLC fell to 1-7 on the season in defeat. St. Catherine improved to 4-6 with the win.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday, September 18, when they travel to Waldorf for a match scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
