Scots Pull Away Late; MLC Remembers Larry Czer

New Ulm, MN - The Martin Luther College women's basketball team squared off with Macalester College from the MIAC for their home opener on Saturday afternoon. The Knights played well on both ends of the court through three quarters of play and took a 38-36 off of a Jordyn Heckendorf old-fashioned three-point play. However, the Scots ramped up their game pressure to begin the fourth quarter and escaped the LSC with a 64-47 victory over MLC.

Despite the double-digit win for Macalester, the game had 13 ties and 12 lead changes as neither team could find much separation until the fourth.

Both teams left points off the board from the free throw line, with the Scots shooting 59 percent and the Knights 50 percent.

A deciding factor for the Scots was in second chance points, as Macalester outscored MLC 16-2 off of 15 offensive rebounds.

Heckendorf had a season-high 15 points to lead MLC and was also active in passing lanes and collected two steals.

Lauren Paulsen also came up with some nice plays and had seven points to go along with nine rebounds.

In the pregame, MLC honored former women's basketball coach, Larry Czer, who passed away this past summer. Czer led MLC women's basketball for seven seasons and took the MLC women's program to its first NCAA tournament in the 2011-12 season. During that season, Czer's team finished 20-8 overall and12-2 in the UMAC.

MLC (0-3) will continue non-conference play on the road at UW-La Crosse on Monday, November 20, at 6 p.m.
