Superior, WI - The Knights played the Yellowjackets tough in a five set match back in early October where they recorded 54 kills as a team. On Friday, the women were unable to match their efficiency on the attack and as a result fell to UW-Superior
3-0 (15-25, 16-25, 20-25).
The Yellowjackets got off to a quick start when they gathered 12 kills on 29 attempts to take the double-digit win in the first set. UW-Superior carried off their momentum into the second set by capitalizing on 14 errors committed by the Knights and took the set 25-16.
MLC would grab their biggest lead of the match to begin the third set when they went up 14-7. However, the Yellowjackets chipped their way back into the set with an 14-4 run to go up 22-18 before take the set 25-20.
Grace Kieselhorst and
Lauren Paulsen each picked up eight kills, while Paulsen also had a team-high 16 digs. Meanwhile,
Ella Walz led the team with 14 assists.
Despite the loss, MLC officially clinched a berth in the UMAC Postseason Tournament as the fourth seed with Northland's loss to Bethany tonight (3-1). MLC is 8-17 overall, 6-7 in conference play and will square off with Northland for their final regular season match tomorrow. The Lumberjills are mathematically eliminated from UMAC Postseason contention as they go to 4-9 with their Friday evening loss.
The match will still go on at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 4, in Ashland, WI.
