Sartell, MN - The Martin Luther College women's tennis team lost a close match on Wednesday afternoon to Minnesota-Morris, with the Knights falling
6-3.
With the loss, MLC has now lost six consecutive matches, with the only win of the season coming on March 21 to Crown. Despite the losing streak, the Knights have improved their play in the last couple of matches, with a 5-4 loss to Bethany and the 6-3 result on Wednesday to the Cougars.
Three of the six losses came in doubles play, as the Cougars buckled down to sweep the Knights in all three matches.
All of the singles matches were heavily contested, with half of the matches going into three sets.
Sarah Hoffe snagged her first singles win at No. 3, with a 7-6, 3-6, 10-5, beating her opponent in a third set tiebreaker.
Abigail Schewe would also earn a singles win at No. 5, winning in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 10-6. The third singles victory came from No. 6 player,
Rachel Schoeneck. The first-year student picked up her second singles win of the season as she won her match 6-1, 6-2.
MLC goes to (1-9, 1-3) and will play Northwestern on Saturday, April 15 at 9 a.m. in St. Paul.
