St. Bonifacius, MN - The MLC baseball team came up short in their Tuesday morning game at Crown, with the Polars defeating the Knights 14-6.
The Knights fell behind 6-0 through four innings of play, but managed to put up a six-run top of the fifth inning to tie the game up at 6-6. The rally was spearheaded by a two-out grandslam from
Carter Seltz. The home run gave Seltz his first of the season and gave MLC an offensive jolt.
However, MLC's momentum would not last long as Crown plated seven runs in response to the Knights' big top half of the inning. From there, the Polars' bullpen would shutout MLC, but the Knights would have the chances to make another comeback, as they left a total of five runners on base the next few innings.
Seltz led the Knights with three hits and four RBI, while
Mason Cox and
Spencer Lilienthal each had two-hit games.
Sam Rodriguez was issued the loss, pitching 4.1 innings, while allowing 10 runs on 13 hits.
MLC (3-10, 0-5) will continue their three-game series with Crown in a Wednesday doubleheader at 2 p.m.
