Mankato, MN - MLC men's tennis lost their match to Bethany
7-2 on Tuesday.
The Knights grabbed their first point of the day in No. 3 doubles when
Brian Friesenegger and
Matthew Koelpin moved past their opponent 8-5. That was the only win in doubles as the men saw themselves down 2-1 heading into singles competiiton.
After losing No. 1 and No. 2 singles, the Knights played hard fought matches the remainder of the day.
Josiah Kolepin took his No. 3 match into a third set, before coming up short 3-6, 6-2, 2-6, while Fiesenegger was defeated in an intense No. 6 match, 5-7,6-3, 7-10.
Elijah Schulz would also go down in No. 3 singles, but made it a battle in his 3-6, 6-3, 12-10 defeat.
The other point for MLC came from
Matthew Koelpin in No. 5 singles, as the freshman earned a 6-2, 6-2 win. Koelpin now has four singles wins to lead the Knights in that category.
Despite the loss, the Knights displayed great resiliency to come back from various deficits in the first set and gave a great effort to bring their singles matches to third set tiebreakers.
MLC (2-9, 2-4) will look to pick up another conference win as they face Crown on Thursday, April 20 in Owatonna. The Knights previously defeated the Polars 7-2 on March 21.
