River Falls, WI - The Martin Luther College Volleyball team traveled to UW-River Falls for their three match tournament this weekend, where they would play St. Olaf on Friday night. The Knights were coming off of a 3-1 loss to Macalester on Wednesday and looked to bounce back with a victory over the Lions, but were swept
3-0.
The Knights had to enter the contest with St. Olaf without its Libero and veteran presence,
Naomi Bridgemen. As a result, MLC struggled to get much going in the first set, falling to the Lions 25-6 after managing just four kills compared to St. Olaf's 15.
In the second set, MLC gave a great effort and stuck with St. Olaf on each volley, matching them kill for kill. The two squads found themselves tied 23-23 near the end of the set, but the Lions gathered the final two points needed to put away the Knights (25-23).
St. Olaf had another high volume of kills in the third set, with a total of 13 and used their power to defeat MLC, taking the final set (25-13).
Leading the way for the Knights during the match was
Grace Kieselhorst, who produced 10 kills for the night, while
Ella Walz led in assists, gathering 13 for her team.Â
MLC will go on to play a doubleheader on Saturday, September 9, to complete their stay at the UW-River Falls tournament. The Knights play Simpson College in the morning (11 a.m.) and then cap off the day with a match against St. Benedict at 5 p.m.
