Free Throws Prove to be the Difference in Morris' Win Against the Knights

Morris, MN - The Martin Luther College women's basketball team hung in tough on the road against Minnesota Morris, but the Knights were unable to overcome a third quarter in which the Cougars extended upon their double-digit lead to 20 and defeated MLC 74-64.

The women would actually outshoot the Cougars from outside going 40 percent, while Minnesota Morris went 27.6 percent.  MLC was also able to stabilize the frontcourt play of Minnesota Morris, who has five players over 6-feet tall. However, the Cougars converted from the charity stripe more effectively than MLC, going 16-of-21 from the line, where the Knights shot 6-of-15, leaving some points off the scoreboard.

The two-headed attack from Jay Kwateh and Jadyn Sondrol kept the Knights on their toes, as the pair finished with 17 points apiece.

Lauren Paulsen led MLC with 22 points and found her rhythm from deep, shooting 5-7 from 3-point territory. The junior also added three of the Knights 12 steals in the game, as the women were active in the passing lanes. Grace Kieselhorst was right behind Paulsen with 13 points and five boards.

MLC (4-11, 1-4) will face Northland for their next game on Friday, January 19, at 5:30 p.m.
