Ashland, WI - The Martin Luther College women's basketball team faced off with the Northland College Lumberjills on Friday evening and jumped out of the gates with a 22-3 run to begin the game in the first quarter. The Knights wouldn't look back from that point on and cruised to an
81-20 win over Northland.
The 61-point margin of victory was MLC's largest against Northland in their all-time series and the Knights did it with a little bit of help from the whole team. MLC received contributions from 15 different players that got into the scoring column.
Grace Kieselhorst led the charge for MLC, finishing 12 points and five steals, while
Jordyn Heckendorf added eight points and two steals.
Lauren Paulsen joined the "steals party" with a career-high six steals to go along with her seven points.
The Knights allowed a season-low 20 points, while Northland managed just 7-of-46 shooting on just 15.2 percent from the field. The women gained a lot of their success on defense from a season-high 33 turnovers forced, cashing in on 35 points off of them.
With the win MLC improved to ( 5-11, 2-4) on the season and will look to tack on another conference win tomorrow afternoon over the UMAC leading Yellowjackets from UW-Superior. The two teams will battle it out at 3 p.m. in the Mertz Mortorelli gymnasium in Superior.
