Box Score 2 Myrtle Beach, SC - The Martin Luther College softball team had a quick turnaround following their comeback performance last evening that led to their sweep. MLC would lose narrowly to Bridgewater State (Bridgewater, MA) in the early game
4-3 and then fell to Eastern Nazarene University (Quincy, MA) in the later game
11-5.
Bridgewater State 4, MLC 3
The Bears gained a small advantage going up 2-0 through two frames of play, but MLC's starting pitcher,
Jessica Horn, helped her own case on the mound with an RBI single to right field in the top of the third (2-1).
In the bottom of the third, Bridgewater State tacked on one more run to go up 3-1 on a fielder's choice. However, the Knights tied up the game 3-3 in the top of the sixth after a pair of RBI singles from
Olivia Siehr and
Rachel McCaughna.
The game would go into extra innings, but it would be Bridgewater State's day and the Bears walked off the game with a Victoria Becker single (4-3).
Lisa Hoffer led MLC with two hits, while Horn pitched one of her better games of the season, pitching 7.1 innings and allowed just four runs (2 earned).
Eastern Nazarene 11, MLC 5
Eastern Nazarene opened up the game with a four-run first inning, that came courtesy of five singles in the frame off of Horn. The Knights had a quick response though, as
Jordyn Heckendorf led the game off with a triple to right field. The senior went home off of an
Anna Busch sacrifice bunt and MLC would post two more runs in the bottom of the first to trim the deficit to 4-3.
The Lions would score in every inning following the first, besides the second frame and steadily defeated the Knigths 11-5. Eastern Nazarene outhit MLC 15-7.
Horn went the distance again, but was issued the loss after allowing 11 runs (9 earned) in seven innings on the mound. Heckendorf, Busch, and
Chloe Berg had multi-hit games, while Berg led the Knights with two RBI.
MLC (2-12) will have a little over a week off, before they begin conference play against Bethany Lutheran on March 22-23. The first of the three game series will start at 4:30 p.m.
