Track & Field Claim Six First-Place Finishes at Gustie Twilight

St. Peter, MN - The Martin Luther College outdoor track & field team claimed six first-place finishes at the Gustie Twilight hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College on Wednesday. 

Men

The men earned five of the top prizes and were highlighted by the relay teams in the 4x200 and 4x800 races. In the 4x200, Matthew Hillmer, Lucas Holtz, Stephen Wietzke, and Jeremiah Stanton broke an MLC school record in the event after their time of 1:30.80. The mark surpassed the previous record of 1:34.33 set in 1999 by Scott Schultz, Tim Palm, Dan Burgess, and Andrew Kuehl.

The MLC men followed suit with another first-place finish in the 4x800, as Micah Schibbelhut, Nathan Pausma, Micah Vanderhoof, and Caleb Munson clocked in with a time of 8:43.35 in the finals.

Josh Zander bested the field in the 1500 meter run after his mark of 4:20.54 in the finals. Fellow MLC long distance runner, Nathan Pausma, earned second place (4:25.67).

In the short distance events, Holtz took first place in the 400 meter dash (51.68 seconds), while Stephen Wietzke (100 meter dash/11.56 seconds) and Martin Raasch (200 meter dash/23.30 seconds) earned fifth place in their respective events.

In the field events, Stanton placed first in the triple jump with a top jump of 12.83 meters in the finals, while Schibbelhut took third in the pole vault (3.81 meters) a week after breaking the MLC record in the event (set by himself/3.89 meters).

Women

The Knights had the three top finishers in the 1500 meter run, as Katelyn Mensching led the pack with a time of 5:24.01 to claim the top prize. Maya Habben took second (5:27.73), while Hope Sulzle followed right behind (5:30.28).

Elise Nolte placed third in the shot put after throwing 11.17 meters. The MLC women also had a couple of top-five finishes in the discus throw after Emma Nelson placed fourth (34.89 meters) and Ella Schlei came in fifth (33.05 meters).

MLC track and field will return for a meet at Saint John's on Saturday, April 20. Events will start up at 11 a.m.
