La Crosse, WI - The MLC volleyball team played a couple of American Rivers Conference opponents on Friday night at the UW-La Crosse tournament. The Knights squared up with Central College (IA) at 3 p.m. and Nebraska Wesleyan at 7 p.m. but could not come out on top, as they were swept
3-0 in both matches.
Central College 3, MLC 0
The Dutch jumped out to an early 13-5 lead in the first set and they would never look back from there as Central claimed it 25-14. In the second set, MLC fell behind by as many as eight points (21-13) before staging a bit of a comeback. However, the Dutch would regroup to take that one 25-19.
The final set saw Central score in various ways and put together a few service aces to close out the match 25-20.
Central finished with 11 service aces as a team and also had a 6-3 edge in blocks.
Ella Walz led MLC in assists (11) and aces (2), while
Anna Kieselhorst started up most of the MLC volleys, as the sophomore recorded 15 digs.
Nebraska Wesleyan 3, MLC 0
Nebraska Wesleyan had an efficient attacking percentage of .333 to help them edge out the Knights 25-14, 25-19, 25-17. MLC's 21 errors compared to the nine miscues committed by the Prairie Wolves' played a big role in the sweep. Elecea Saathoff picked up 28 assists to set things up for Nebraska Wesleyan, while Addie Thomas finished with 14 kills.
Grace Kieselhorst delivered 15 assists to lead the Knights and
Lydia Feidt had eight kills on a team-best .333 hitting percentage.
MLC goes to 3-10, 0-1 after Friday and will aim to leave La Crosse with a win on Saturday morning as they take on Saint Mary's (MN) at 9 a.m.
