Superior, WI - The Martin Luther College men's and women's golf teams played in the Twin Ports Collegiate tournament on Saturday and Sunday hosted by UW-Superior at the Nemadji golf course. The pool of teams consisted of a mix of MIAC and UMAC schools and both MLC men and women finished 6th overall out of eight schools. Augsburg took 1st in the women's competition, while UW-Superior (A) claimed first for the men's rounds.
The MLC women shot a 244 as a team with freshman
Brooke Parkurst leading the way for the Knights at 27th overall after shooting 102 on Saturday and 99 on Sunday. Sophomore
Chloe Berg jumped seven spots up the individual ranks from day one to the final round and shot a 95 on Sunday, giving her 30th overall. The Knights had two more women golfers in the top 40, as
Myah Loberger finished both rounds in 206 strokes (104 & 102) which was good enough for 32nd, while
Olivia Klabunde came in 35th after shooting 105 on both days.
The men were led by freshman
Benjamin Pearson, who finished in a 12th-place tie out of 54 golfers after shooting a solid score of 75 on Sunday.
Luke Latzke had the biggest movement from the first round after sliding in at 26th overall after being in 35th on Saturday. Latzke shot an 84 and 79 in both rounds. Another sophomore in
John Martin came in 32nd, with a final score of 166 throughout the tournament.
Overall, the golf team competed well in a tournament with tough competition. Both squads will aim to improve their scores as they prepare for the UMAC Preview on Thursday, September 12. The meet is scheduled at the Pebble Creek golf course in Becker, MN.
