Crown defeats MLC in 5 sets as multiple Knights hit career highs

St. Bonifacius, MN - MLC took on Crown College for its first five set match of the season and looked for the season sweep of the Polars after beating them 3-0 in late September. However, Crown didn't allow that to happen as they defeated the Knights in a closely contested match 3-2 (27-25, 26-24, 25-21, 30-28, 15-6).

In what was a seesaw match, Crown took the first set by a pair of points as each squad notched 13 kills in the set. The difference in the opening set were the eight MLC miscues compared to three for the Polars.

The second set went in favor of the Knights with MLC taking it 26-24. In the set, MLC had 16 kills and showed perservance coming back from as many as six points at one mark to tie the match up 1-1.

In the third set, each team had double-digit errors, but it'd be Crown who'd come out on top with the 25-21 victory. The Knights traded off once again in the fourth set to to make it 2-2 after scoring a season-high of 30 points after four of their last five points were off of kills. MLC recorded a total of 18 kills to help give them the edge.

The fifth and final set was decided 15-6 after Crown committed just one error with six kills compared to six errors by MLC.

Despite the tough loss there were multiple career high individual performances from the Knights on the court including 30 digs from Anna Kieselhorst and Lydia Feidt (21 kills). Freshman Kourtney Zech had a career best match with a double-double in assists (23) and digs (25). Hannah Rodmyre earned a career high in aces (6), while Kiara Humann (12) and Greta Nolte (10) had double-digit kills.

MLC will go on the road next Friday, November 7, for its next match against North Central.
