New Ulm, MN - MLC picked up its first win of the 2025-26 campaign after the Knights brought down St. Catherine at home Saturday night by a final score of
63-56. MLC was close to beating the Wildcats last season at their place, but St. Kate's hit a 3-pointer in the final seconds to get past them. On Saturday, MLC made the plays down the stretch to have the outcome in its favor and were led in their backcourt from the duo of
Mya Morris and
Wilhelmina Wenz. The guards finished with 21 points apiece and gave MLC a big boost as they went on a 12-0 run spanning from the end of the third quarter into the fourth.
In the run, Morris hit a 3-pointer to put the Knights up 48-45 at the end of three quarters. Wenz would then add a pair of 3-pointers with just under three minutes left to make it 63-52. Before that, the game featured five ties and six lead changes.
MLC was active defensively as well, forcing 20 turnovers from the Wildcats. The Knights scored 25 points off turnovers and defended the perimeter well, holding St. Kate's to just 18 percent shooting from deep.
Ava Stein finished with eight points and 12 boards, while
Lydia Feidt grabbed seven boards and had four steals. Wenz also added six rebounds and two steals, while shooting 54 percent from the field.
MLC goes to 1-1 overall and will be back at home on Monday, November 17, at 7 p.m. against Macalester College.
