New Ulm, MN - MLC men's basketball squared off with NCCAA opponent (National Christian College Athletic Association) Spurgeon College at home on Friday evening. The Spurgeon Knights made the trip up from Kansas City, Missouri, and MLC was defeated
91-80.
Joseph Allen led Spurgeon with 36 points, 20 rebounds, two steals, two blocks, and shot 68 percent from the field to help his team get by MLC.
MLC stayed on pace with Spurgeon throughout the first half and only trailed them by four at the break (42-38).Â
The Knights never gave up in the second half and looked like they might make a few runs to get over the deficit, but Spurgeon would force a turnover or get a timely steal and easy bucket going the other way.
Spurgeon scored 54 of its 91 points in the paint and had its entire starting five reach double figures.
Adam Loberger also had a double-double for the MLC, totaling 24 points and 12 rebounds.
Trey Lauber and
Ethan Kjenstad each finished with 14 points, while
Benjamin Pearson picked up 11 points and eight boards.
MLC will be back at home tomorrow when they host Maranatha Baptist for a 2:45 tip in the LSC gymnasium.
