St. Paul, MN - The MLC women's basketball team was without the UMAC leading scorer,
Mya Morris, for a second consecutive game, but despite her absence, the Knights managed to get a convincing win over Northwestern
71-47 on the road Wednesday night.
MLC cruised to a 21-7 advantage through the first 10 minutes of action, and the Knights ended the quarter with two made 3-pointers from
Anna Kieselhorst and
Wilhelmina Wenz. The Knights shot almost 53 percent in the period and allowed Northwestern to shoot only 13 percent from the field in the first.
MLC maintained its double-digit lead in the second quarter, heading into halftime and entering the break up 37-20 over the Eagles.Â
The Knights went on a 14-4 run to start the third quarter and took a commanding 58-34 lead after the third. MLC continued with its balanced output of production to win 71-47 and the starting five all reached double figures.Â
Lydia Feidt and Wenz were all over the court on both ends. Entering the game, Feidt leads the UMAC in field goal percentage (52.2%) and steals (62) for the season, and contributed in both areas once again in this one (80%). The senior finished with 18 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and five steals.
Wenz crashed the boards all game long and tied the MLC single-game record for rebounds in a game (20 rebounds), which
Jade St. Germaine accomplished twice in the 2016 season. Wenz currently leads all UMAC players in rebounds this season (160).
To go along with her 20 rebounds, Wenz scored 14 points and had five assists, while
Ava Stein chipped in with 12 points and seven rebounds. Meanwhile,
Ella Walz and Kieselhorst added 10 points apiece for the Knights.
