Morris, MN - The MLC women's basketball team was unable to bring down Minnesota Morris on the road, falling to the Cougars
75-68.
Wilhelmina Wenz came out of the gates hot from the floor, scoring the first 11 points for MLC, which included three consecutive 3-pointers. Her play helped spearhead a 23-11 advantage through one quarter of play. In the second, Minnesota Morris answered with efficient scoring from the field, shooting 55 percent, and did most of its damage from inside the key.Â
The Cougars held a 42-14 edge in points in the paint and also controlled the glass, outrebounding MLC 51-32.
MLC did still keep the game tied at halftime and stuck with Minnesota Morris point-for-point in the third quarter, only being down 54-52 at the end of the third period.
However, the Cougars went back to work in the paint and also hit their free throws, making 17-of-18 attempts to keep them ahead. Minnesota Morris also prevented MLC from getting hot in the fourth, limiting them to 30 percent.
Wenz finished with a career high 26 points and knocked down six shots from beyond the arc. The sophomore also had two steals, while
Anna Kieselhorst led the squad with four steals. Kieselhorst recorded 19 points and had seven rebounds for the Knights.
Lydia Feidt finished with 11 points and grabbed six boards.
MLC will have its Senior Day on Wednesday, February 18, when North Central comes to town. Currently North Central is in the fourth spot (5-5) of the UMAC, while MLC is in fifth at 4-7 conference record.
