ST. PETER, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's tennis team lost a pair of matches at Gustavus on Saturday. The Knights lost their first match to Central College 8-1, and then lost to 9-0 against Gustavus in the night cap Saturday at the Swanson Tennis Center.
Central 8, MLC 1 (RESULTS)The Knights lost the first match of the day 8-1 against Central College.
MLC opened the match with three double matches, which Central was able to sweep by the finals of 8-3, 8-4 and 8-2.
In singles,
Ethan Schultz registered the lone point for MLC in number six singles, winning his match in three sets by the scores of 6-3, 6-7, and 1-0 (10-4).Â
Nicolas Gartner was able to take his number five singles match to a first set tie-breaker, but was fell in straight sets 7-6 and 6-3.
Gustavus 9, MLC 0 (RESULTS)MLC was unable to register a win against Gustavus (the host school of the event) in its second match in a 9-0 loss.
The Gusties won the three doubles matches by the scores of 8-2, 8-1 and 8-2.
In singles, the Gusties took all six matches in straight sets.
MLC fell to 0-4 on the season following the two defeats.
The Knights will return to action on March 31, when they open the UMAC portion of the schedule with a match at North Central.Â
