NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's tennis team evened its conference record with a 7-2 win over Minnesota Morris in the team's home opener on Wednesday.

The Knights started strong by winning all three doubles matches. The team of Acacia Foss and Rachel Riediger won their number one match 8-2. The number two team of Mateja Epple and Charis Goelzer won 8-0, as did the number three team of Sophia Birner and Elizabeth Broring.

In singles competition, the Cougars were able to win the numbers one and two matches, but the Knights' depth prevailed as they won the final four to earn the team win. Goelzer and Broring won their number three and four matches in straight sets. Melissa Stibb and Birner won the numbers five and six in straight sets without losing a game in their matches.

MLC improved its record to 2-7 overall, and 2-2 in UMAC play with the win. UMM fell to 3-4 overall, and 3-2 in conference play.

The Knights will return to action on Saturday, April 16, when they travel to Northwestern.
