NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's tennis team closed the regular season with a 9-0 sweep of Bethany Lutheran College on Tuesday.

MLC started the match with three wins in doubles. The number one team of Acacia Foss and Rachel Riediger outlasted their opponents 9-7. Charis Goelzer and Mateja Epple also had to battle to win their number two match 8-6. Sophia Birner and Elizabeth Broring cruised to a 8-2 win in the third match.

With a big lead after doubles, the Knights capitalized on that momentum with a clean sweep of all six singles match, winning each in straight sets. Foss, Riediger and Goelzer set the tone at the top of the line-up, while Broring, Melissa Stibb and Birner showcased the team's impressive depth with wins in the second half of the line-up.

MLC improved to 6-10 on the season and 6-4 in UMAC play with the win. BLC fell to 4-17 overall and 3-7 in conference play in defeat.

The Knights now move on to the UMAC Championships, where they will face second seed Northwestern in the first round on May 6. That match is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
