WINONA, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's tennis team opened its 2017 season with a 9-0 loss to Saint Mary's at the Winona Tennis Center on Friday.

The Cardinals won the three doubles matches by the scores of 8-0, 8-3 and 8-4, and then took all six singles matches in straight sets.

First-year player Anna Hemmelman made her collegiate debut in the top spot for the Knights and fell in defeat by the scores of 6-4 and 6-2. Ella Loersch and Molly Paggi also made their debuts next to returners Rachel Riediger, Sophia Birner and Morgan Schevey.

MLC will return to action on Saturday, February 4, when it travels to Leonard Center to take on Macalester in a match scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
