DULUTH, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's tennis team opened the conference portion of its schedule with a 7-2 defeat at St. Scholastica on Friday.
The Knights opened the match with three defeats in doubles, losing the number one match 8-0 but battling to close defeats in the last two matches by the scores of 8-6 and 9-7.
In singles, the Saints took the first four matches in straight sets. MLC was able to come away with a pair of points, however, as
Nicolas Gartner won his number five match 6-1, 6-1, and
Ethan Schultz overcame a first set defeat to win his number six singles match 0-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-4).
MLC fell to 0-4 on the season and 0-1 in UMAC play in defeat. CSS improved to 11-1 overall and 2-0 in UMAC play with the win.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday, April 1, when they host Minnesota Morris in a match scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
