WINONA, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's tennis team opened its season with a 9-0 loss to Saint Mary's (Minn.) at Winona Tennis Center on Friday.

MLC opened the match with three defeats in doubles. The number one team of Anna Hemmelman and Rachel Riediger lost 2-8. The number two team of Morgan Shevey and Rachel Schewe was defeated 4-8, while the third team of Anastasia Bornschlegl and Jessica Stibb lost 6-8.

SMU was able to complete the sweep with six wins in straight sets in singles.

The Knights dropped to 0-1 with the loss. The Cardinals improved to 1-0 with the win.

MLC will return to action on Saturday, February 3, when it plays St. Catherine. That match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. at Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis, Minn.
