LAKEVILLE, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's tennis team lost both matches in a triangular on Saturday at Lifetime Fitness Center. The Knights lost the opener 5-4 to Bethany Lutheran in a non-conference match, and then lost to Simpson by the final of 6-3.
BLC 5, MLC 4 (
RESULTS)
The Knights dropped two of the three doubles matches against the Vikings, with the team of
Caleb Koelpin and
Christopher Walther winning the lone point in the number three match by the score of 8-5. BLC took the other two matches by the scores of 8-4 and 8-6.
The two teams split the six singles matches, with
Josh Koelpin (6-4, 6-0) and
Caleb Koelpin (7-6, 7-5) winning in straight sets, and
Joel Koelpin coming from behind to win his number four match in three sets by the scores of 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8).
Simpson 6, MLC 3Â (
RESULTS)
The Knights started strong with a pair of wins in doubles. The team of
Justin Steinke and
Ethan Schultz won their number one doubles match 8-5, and the number two team of
Josh Koelpin and
Joel Koelpin won 8-5, as well.
In singles,
Joel Koelpin's 6-2, 6-0 win in the number four spot was the lone MLC point, giving Simpson the final 6-3 win.
MLC dropped to 0-3 on the season following the two defeats.
MLC will return to action on March 17 when it plays at UW-Superior in a non-conference match scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
