Knights Sweep BLC for First Win of 2018

RESULTS

LAKEVILLE, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's tennis team earned its first win of the 2018 season against Bethany Lutheran College by the final of 9-0 in a non-conference match at Lifetime Fitness Center on Saturday.

The Knights dominated the match from the start by sweeping the three doubles matches by the scores of 8-1, 8-0 and 8-0. The second team of Rachel Schewe and Morgan Shevey, as well as the third team of Ella Loersch and Sophia Birner, held the Vikings without a point in their doubles wins.

In singles, MLC completed the sweep with six straight-set wins. Anna Hemmelman (6-0, 6-1) and Rachel Riediger (6-0, 6-2) set the tone at the top of the line-up for the Knights, while Schewe earned the first singles win of her career in the number three match.

MLC improved to 1-2 on the season with the win. BLC fell to 0-1 in defeat.

The match scheduled for Tuesday, February 13, at Buena Vista has been postponed. The Knights will return to action on Saturday, February 17, when they play a triangular against Northwestern (Iowa) and Saint Benedict at Fitness Revolution Center in Sartell, Minn.
