LAKEVILLE, Minn. – The Martin Luther College men's tennis team lost both matches in a doubleheader at Lifetime Fitness Center on Saturday. The Knights lost the opener 8-1 to St. Scholastica, and then dropped the night cap 7-2 against Bethany Lutheran.
CSS 8, MLC 1 (
RESULTS)
The Knights opened the day with an 8-1 defeat to UMAC-leading St. Scholastica.
MLC scored its lone point of the match in number two doubles thanks to a 9-8 win by the team of
Josh Schroeder and
Nicolas Gartner thanks to an 8-6 tiebreaker to win the final point. The Saints took the other two matches by the scores of 8-4 and 8-3.
In singles, CSS swept all six matches in straight sets.
BLC 7, MLC 2 (
RESULTS)
The Knights were unable to overcome an early deficit in a 7-2 defeat to BLC in the second match of the doubleheader.
BLC took all three doubles matches to take the early lead. The Vikings won the numbers one and two matches 8-0 and 8-1, and then took the third match in a tiebreaker 9-8.
In singles,
Joel Koelpin won his number three match in straight sets, and
Caleb Koelpin earned a win in the number five match, but BLC won the other four to secure the team victory.
MLC fell to 4-7 on the season and 2-3 in UMAC play following the two losses.
The Knights will return to action on Tuesday, April 24, at Crown College.
