Women Sweep NCU 9-0 to Open UMAC Play

RESULTS

FRIDLEY, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's tennis team opened conference play with a 9-0 sweep of North Central University at Lifetime Fitness Center on Thursday.

MLC opened the match with a 3-0 sweep in doubles. The number one team of Anna Hemmelman and Rachel Schewe won 8-5. Rachel Riediger and Morgan Shevey won their number two match 8-0, while the number three team of Sophia Birner and Ella Loersch won 8-2.

The Knights complete the sweep in singles, winning all six matches in straight sets to secure the 9-0 win. Anna Hemmelman's 6-1, 6-2 win in number one singles was her team-best fourth singles win of the season. Riediger, Schewe, Shevey, Birner and Loersch each earned their second singles victories of the season in the win.

MLC improved to 2-5 on the season and 1-0 in UMAC play with the win. NCU fell to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the UMAC in defeat.

The Knights are scheduled to return to action Tuesday, April 10, when they play at Minnesota Morris.
