Men's Tennis Snags 8-1 Win Over Morris

Sartell, MN - The Martin Luther College men's tennis team picked up their second win of the season, defeating the Minnesota-Morris Cougars 8-1 on Wednesday afternoon.

The win comes at a perfect time, as the men's squad was in the midst of a five-game losing streak, with the lone win of the season coming against Crown on March 21.

The Knights swept the Cougars in doubles competition, beating Minnesota-Morris handily all three of the matches. The duo of Josiah Wordell and Johannes Bourman earned their first doubles victory of the year, topping their opponent 8-2.

Wordell and Bourman carried that momentum into a pair of wins on the singles side, with Wordell winning 6-1, 6-3, and Bourman (6-0, 6-1). Josiah and Matthew Koelpin found success in their singles matches, with Josiah downing his number-three opponent, 6-2, 6-1, while Matthew won his number-five match 6-3, 6-1.

The only loss on the day came from Elijah Schulz, who went down in three sets. The junior battled tough, losing the final two sets, after going up in a first-set tiebreaker.

MLC improves to (2-7, 2-2) will now go on to face Northwestern for a Saturday morning match at 9 a.m. in St. Paul on April 15.
