Men's Tennis Slips By Bethany

Box Score New Ulm, MN - The Martin Luther College men's tennis team defeated Bethany Lutheran on Wednesday afternoon 5-4. The Knights returned the favor and won the rematch over the Vikings, who had previously beaten MLC 5-4 last Wednesday in Owatonna.

Last week the Vikings gained an edge in doubles play and took two of the three matches. On Wednesday, April 24, the Knights were the winners in two of the three matches, courtesy of an 8-3 (Josiah Koelpin/Elijah Schulz) win and an 8-5 (Eli Stern/Brian Friesenegger) victory.

The Knights then managed to outlast the Vikings in three singles matches in the middle of the lineup. Matthew Koelpin came away with his second win of the day, as he downed his opponent 6-2, 6-2 in No. 3 singles. Meanwhile, Stern would do the same in No. 4 singles, but by a final score of 6-2, 7-5 in addition to a No. 5 win from Schulz (6-0, 6-2).

With the win, MLC improves to 3-9 overall this season and will host Northwestern on Saturday, April 27, at 11 a.m. for their final match of the 2024 season.
