Knights Set to Face BLC in Opening Round

NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's basketball team is set to play at Bethany Lutheran College Monday (February 20) in an the opening round of the UMAC Postseason Tournament.

The Knights finished the season fifth in the conference standings with an 8-8 conference record, while the Vikings took fourth place with a 9-7 UMAC mark.

The two teams met twice this season, with the Vikings sweeping the two games.

In the first meeting, the teams battled into overtime before the Vikings came away with a 73-71 win. Jade St. Germaine led all players with 26 points and a school-record 20 rebounds in defeat for the Knights. Dakota Ellinghuysen led BLC with 20 points (14 of them on free throws) and 10 rebounds.

The Vikings finished the season sweep with a 65-52 win in Mankato on January 21. BLC held the Knights to only 15 first half points in that contest, and the Knights were unable to overcome that early deficit in the second half. Haley Sandin led all players in the game with 13 points.

The Knights are no strangers to the conference tournament, as they make their ninth straight appearance this season. Last year, MLC overcame a pair of regular season losses against Minnesota Morris to defeat the Cougars in the opening round game.

This is the second time this year the Knights and Vikings will play in a conference tournament game. The two schools met in the UMAC Volleyball Postseason Tournament in the fall, with MLC winning that match in five sets.
