Women’s basketball slated fourth in UMAC

ST. PAUL, Minn. - MLC women's basketball has been picked to finish fourth in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference by the conference's coaches.

After a fifth-place finish last season, the Knights return a pair of all-conference performers from a season ago in first-teamer Wilhelmina Wenz and honorable mention pick, Anna Kieselhorst. Wenz averaged 12.2 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game. She led the UMAC in rebounding. Kieselhorst averaged 10.9 points and 4.1 rebounds per game.

The team will also get standout shooter and scorer Mya Morris back at some point during the season after missing the majority of last season with injury. Morris holds the single-season record for made 3-pointers in program history and is one of the most prolific shooters in program history.

MLC will have to replace the production from now-graduated Lydia Feidt, who started all 25 games last season and averaged 10 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.3 steals.

Other key returners for the Knights include Ava Stein, Ella Walz and Ava Walz. All three featured in every game last season. Stein scored 10 points and grabbed 5 boards per game while Ella Walz was second on the team with 1.8 assists.

The Knights welcome five freshmen into the program.

Coach Dan Gawrisch enters his 12th year at the helm of women's basketball. He's won more than 100 games in his career and has guided the Knights to the UMAC tournament on four occasions. He was the UMAC coach of the year following the 2024-25 season.
